Choosing Schools

Updated on June 28, 2017

These websites have tools to help parents and families choose the best elementary, middle, or high school for their children. They include sites with ratings from parents, location finders, and state reports cards for public schools in your area.

Beyond brick and mortar buildings, many states now offer at least one option for a free online school program.  These virtual classrooms can be a good option for some students.  Scheduling conflicts with extracurricular activities or difficulties in a traditional school setting are just a few of the reasons some parents prefer online schools for their children.

Virtual classrooms can also expand the course options available to high school students, particularly in smaller communities.  Please carefully check the online school’s accreditations and costs in your locality.  Any of the online schools listed below may be free in some states but not others.

Also, look at the Home Schooling section for other alternatives.
